Lynn is a nonprofit management and development consultant whose professional life has revolved around arts and cultural organizations since the 1970s. Her career began as Administrator of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, where she served from 1972 to 1977. She was recruited to become the Executive Director of the Western Association of Art Museums (WAAM) in San Francisco, which, in 1981, became the Art Museum Association of America. AMAA merged with the American Federation of Arts in New York in 1986. Ms. Upchurch served as the Executive Director of the Friends of Photography in San Francisco from 1987 to 1988; in 1989 she became the Development Director of the Oakland Museum of California, which she left in 1996 to form Lynn Upchurch & Associates.
