Eric Weingartner

2016 is Eric's sixth season on staff with the Blue Devils organization. Since 2012 he has been a Brass Caption Head at Blue Devils 'B' and has been a brass instructor with the A corps since 2014. Eric is currently in his sixth year as the Associate Director of Bands at Homestead High School in Cupertino, California where he teaches the marching band, 9th grade concert band, symphonic band, and wind ensemble II. In 2016, Eric was awarded the Gilbert T. Freitas Outstanding Music Educator Award by the CMEA Bay Section, awarded to an instrumental music teacher with less than seven years of experience. In 2015, the Homestead Marching Band traveled to Bands of America Grand Nationals for the first time and advanced to Semi-Finals with a final placement of 19th overall. Additionally, Homestead placed 2nd overall at the Bands of America Northern California Regional. In 2011 the Homestead Marching Band performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Since 2007, the Homestead Marching Band has been a regular Finalist in WBA Grand Championships, placing as high as 3rd in 2010. In the fall of 2005, Eric began his undergraduate studies in music education at Arizona State University, where he studied with renowned brass educator and Breathing Gym author, Sam Pilafian. In the spring of 2010, Eric earned his bachelors degree in instrumental music education from Butler University, where he sat principal euphonium in the wind ensemble and completed his student teaching at Avon High School in Avon, Indiana. Eric began his DCI career in 2002 with The Academy from Tempe, AZ on baritone, and completed seven consecutive seasons with the organization until 2008. Since moving to Northern California, Eric has become very involved in the music community performing with the Mission Peak Brass Band, San Jose Wind Symphony, Silicon Valley Brass Band, San Jose Youth Symphony, Palo Alto Philharmonic and Chabot Wind Symphony. He currently maintains a private studio of tuba and euphonium players that have earned spots in the San Francisco Youth Orchestra, CBDA All-State Jr. High and High School Honor Bands, as well as the Santa Clara County Honor Band. Eric's professional affiliations include NAfME, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the California Band Directors Association.
