Laramie: A Second Home for The Blue Devils

The Blue Devils have officially arrived in Laramie, Wyoming, for their annual month-long rehearsal camp at the University of Wyoming—marking the fourth year of a partnership that has grown into something truly special. What began as a practical solution has transformed into a meaningful relationship, deeply cherished by both the corps and the Laramie community.

“Laramie, Wyoming has become a second home for me and my fellow Blue Devils,” says Drum Major Connor Carbonell, who has been part of the ensemble during all four Laramie stays.

From the start, the local community welcomed the Blue Devils with open arms. That mutual warmth and appreciation have only grown stronger over time. “We’ve made so many friends that we look forward to seeing every spring,” shares long-time corps manager Sheryl Miles. “Campus employees, team coaches, local business owners, and residents all rally behind our performers and show their support in countless ways.”

The rehearsal environment is just as extraordinary. Set at an elevation of 7,220 feet, the Division I-level facilities—complete with a full football stadium and indoor training space—offer the corps an unmatched opportunity to prepare for their biggest performances.

“The facilities are fantastic,” says Connor. “They allow us to rehearse at a high level and experience what it feels like to fill up a massive stadium. It’s great preparation for what’s ahead on tour.”

But it’s not just about the rehearsal space. “My favorite part is the dining hall,” Connor adds with a smile. “The food is excellent, and the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. It’s obvious they care about our well-being, and that means a lot.”

The Blue Devils’ time in Laramie culminates with a special gift back to the community: a free performance at War Memorial Stadium. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, June 22 at 8:00 PM, and will feature the full 2025 show in uniform, followed by a meet-and-greet on the stadium field.

“We’re truly grateful to Laramie and the University of Wyoming,” Connor reflects. “This community has given us so much, and it’s incredibly rewarding to show our thanks with this performance. It’s not just a rehearsal stop, it’s a part of our story now.”
