On Monday October 26, 2015, System Blue, in coordination with JinBao Musical Instruments, will host a five-day workshop in Baodi, Tianjin, China. System Blue Director of Education, Frank Troyka will be joined by Keith Dunton, TJ Doucette and Casey Brohard.
Workshop content will include rehearsal design, methodology, marching technique and methodology, body awareness, evolution of marching activity, design concepts and elements of design, battery and keyboard technique, adapting the musical book for the field, effective use of student leaders in rehearsal, and strategies for teaching drill.
Translators will be present throughout the workshop to assist with language difficulties. Student demonstration groups will be available each afternoon to provide a laboratory environment for applying visual, musical, and rehearsal techniques covered in the morning sessions. The staff will use a combination of live demonstration and video instruction to provide a comprehensive overview of contemporary marching band design and methodology.
The workshop will be attended by approximately 35 band local band directors, representatives from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Military Band, and students from the Shen Yang Conservatory of Music.
