What is BDWinds

Established in 1996, the BDWinds serve 60 to 80 local students, ages 14–22, offering consistent instrumentation conducive to performing major wind and percussion compositions. Designed as a cooperative interaction with school music programs, BDWinds provides a positive learning environment, master classes with professional clinicians, and an annual concert season with internationally renowned soloists. Read the full history of BDPA.

In 2023, BDWinds started to take the show on the road and have been to places like the Sony Recording Studio and, for 2025, have a trip planned to Seattle! 

Who can join BDWinds?

BDWinds is open to dedicated wind and percussion musicians, typically high school age and older (up to 22). Membership is based on auditions, which evaluate musicianship, technique, and ensemble skills.

What makes BDWinds different from other wind ensembles?

BDWinds offers a high-caliber musical experience, world-class instruction, and the opportunity to perform with talented musicians in a dynamic, supportive environment.

What kind of music does BDWinds perform?

The ensemble performs a wide range of wind symphony literature, from classical wind band repertoire to contemporary and cinematic works.

The Blue Devils provide more than just a performance experience.  We foster personal growth, building lifelong friendships, and develop skills that help young people succeed in school, careers, and life.

What instruments and equipment are used?

As a wind symphony, BDWinds performers use piccolos, flutes, clarinets, oboes, saxophones, bassoons, trumpets, trombones, baritones, euphoniums, tubas, and percussionists play both pitched and rhythm instruments.

Do members need to provide their own instruments?

Most musicians are expected to provide their own instruments, though limited larger instruments (such as tubas and percussion equipment) may be available.

How much does it cost to participate and what do fees cover?

The participation fees vary from year to year, but generally, the cost for participating in the BDWinds is approximately $400-$1500 (depending on season and planned trip).  Payment can be made in installments. Installment due dates are sent out to participants upon acceptance.

Participation fees include (but are not limited to): instruction, rehearsal and concert facilities, masterclass clinicians, guest conductors, guest artists, all performance music and folders, some branded merchandise, some snacks and meals, and percussion equipment.

Where can I watch performances?

Absolutely! BD Performing Arts performers from all programs host and attend many performance opportunities.  BDWinds performances can be found on Calendar.

The Blue Devils perform at various events during their summer tour. You can also catch them at the DCI World Championships or view performances online through FloMarching and our Youtube Channel.

What is the history of the Blue Devils?

The Blue Devils were founded in 1957 as a drum and bell corps. Over the decades, they evolved into a world-class competitive organization, earning recognition as one of the best in the world.  You can read more about the history - CLICK HERE

Where do I sign in to my BDPA Account?

Sign into your BDPA account here. If you don't already have an account from a previous experience with BDPA, one will be created for you when registering for any program or buying any ticket. If you are not sure if you have an account - Click Here.  If you do a password reset, an email will be sent (CHECK SPAM)

For Auditionees or Participants under 18 years old, a parent or guardian must also be attached to your account. Please follow the steps below to update your information:

1. Log in
2. Click General info
3. Enter Your Date of Birth in the designated field.
4. Click the Save Button
5. Click My Family on the left-hand side
6. Click Add Family Member Button
7. Fill in the information boxes and click Add Family Member.

I'm trying to pay for a ticket or registration, but my card won't go through. What do I do?

Payment Declined? Here’s What to Check:
If your payment is declined, it may be due to one of the following reasons:

• Insufficient Funds: Ensure your account has enough balance for the transaction.
• Daily Spending Limit: Some debit cards have a daily transaction cap. You may need to contact your bank to raise it temporarily.
• Card Restrictions: Your bank may block large or unusual transactions for security reasons. Try calling them to approve the payment.
• Incorrect Information: Double-check your card number, expiration date, CVV, and billing address.
• Expired Card: Ensure your card is still valid and hasn’t expired.

Recommended Fixes:

• Contact your bank to check for any restrictions.
• Try a different card or payment method.
• Attempt smaller amounts over a few days.
• Wait a few minutes and try again.
